Just 30 km south of Karlsruhe lies the Black Forest spa of Bad Herrenalb with around 7,000 inhabitants at an elevation of between 400 and 700 m. In addition to the centre of the town, which is in the valley, the three districts Bernbach, Neusatz and Rotensol also belong to the town.
Bad Herrenalb is idyllically situated between seven Black Forest valleys amid the breath-taking landscape of Germany’s largest nature park: the Black Forest Nature Park Central/North with all its scenic attractions, local traditions and the culinary Black Forest specialities.
As they laid the foundations for what was the former monastic settlement in the 12th century, the Cistercian monks already sensed the special magic of this location. Over the centuries of its eventful history, Herrenalb has developed into a thriving tourist town and is today entitled to bear the prefix “Bad” (German for “bath”) and is rated as a “climatic health resort” and “health spa”.
